2/ Opening Ceremony Music Event
Aegean Jazz – Vasilis Rakopoulos quintet
A particularly atmospheric concert based on Aegean musical characteristics and cadences, within the context of contemporary jazz trends. It is an improvisational composition which falls within the international movement of ‘Intuitive Music’. The project was developed in the aftermath of concerts by Marcus Stockhausen and Vasilis Rakopoulos within the context of performances and workshops organized by the Goethe Institute and the University of Macedonia and C.C.C.C of Heraklion.
The musicians get together at a unique level of experimental ethos and spirit, acting in an “intuitive” musical & poetical manner, setting the musical dialog on a level of high alertness and emotional content. It is not only that the original compositions are characterized by the austerity of the Cycladic idiom, but also the way of approaching and interpreting, searching for a sound which echoes the clarity of the light of the Cycladic islands.
Musicians
Takis Farazis pn / Kb
Andreas Polyzogopoulos trumpet, flugelhorn
Vasilis Rakopoulos classical & midi gt, vocals
Petros Varthakouris double bass, vocals
Petros Kourtis percussion
The concert is courtesy of the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion.
